Networking & System Support

Networking

The MANIT,Bhopal Campus Networking is the central facility providing internet, intranet, wired and wireless network support to the entire staffs and students community of MANIT Campus.

CCF manages the internet connectivity(both wired and wireless). For the network services, centre has the high end computational servers on which accounts are given to students, staff and faculty of the departments.

MANIT Bhopal has an extensive fibre optic network over the whole campus. The present campus network basically comprise of more than 30-32 KMs of Fibre Optic cable backbone with 80+ routed internal networks .Presently the network is served by 2Gbps(1Gbps internet leased line from PowerGrid,1Gbps internet leased line from BSNL).

CCF functions on 24 x 7 basis 365days without any holidays.

LAN

A Local Area Network (LAN) is a network infrastructure that connects devices within a limited geographical area, such as an office, school, or home, facilitating communication, file sharing, and resource access among connected devices. LANs are essential for efficient data transfer and collaboration in localized settings.

WI-FI

Wi-Fi, short for Wireless Fidelity, is a wireless communication technology that allows devices to connect to the internet and local networks without the need for physical cables, providing convenient and flexible internet access in homes, businesses, and public spaces. It has become an integral part of modern connectivity, enabling wireless access across a wide range of devices, from smartphones and laptops to IoT devices.

NTP

The CCF MANIT is releasing its Network Time Protocol servers for use by all. System administrators of servers and clients in MANIT can set ntp1.manit.ac.in and ntp2.manit.ac.in as the time servers within MANIT. These time servers are synchronized with standard Internet time servers with time drift less than a few milliseconds.

Please check the documentation of your operating system for help on setting the time servers in your machine.

WLC
Firewall

Firewalls have come a long way from their humble beginnings of assessing network traffic based on appearance alone. Today’s next-generation firewalls (NGFWs), which must protect all areas of enterprise, can filter Layer 7 applications, block malicious attachments and links, detect known threats and device vulnerabilities, apply patching, prevent DDoS attacks, and provide web filtering for direct internet access.

MANIT network fully Secured with industry leading NGFW (Next Generation Firewall) with HA (High Availability) Cluster setup and inspect the incoming and outgoing traffic with the help of FortiAnalyzer and firewall key features.

Web Filtering & Url Filtering :- Web filtering includes a number of features you can use to protect or limit your users’ activity onthe web.

Application Control:- Firewall employs a comprehensive application database that categorizes applications. Administrators can create policies based on specific applications or application categories. This allows them to either permit, deny, or limit the usage of particular applications or types of applications.

Flow and Proxy-Based Inspection:- :- Flow-based inspection, that takes a snapshot of content packets and uses pattern matching to identify security threats in the content. Proxy-based inspection, that reconstructs content passing through the Firewall and inspects the content for security threats.

Intrusion Prevention System (IPS):- A vigilant shield, swiftly detecting and thwarting potential threats before they breach the network's defenses.

User and Group-based Policies:- Tailored security measures that empower administrators to customize access and control based on individual users or collective groups, ensuring precise and targeted network permissions and restrictions

SSLVPN
SSL-VPN

CCF has installed a Secure Socket Layer VPN (SSL-VPN) server to allow authorized users to securely connect to the MANIT BHOPAL network from off campus using their LDAP Credentials through the public telecommunication infrastructure and the Internet. SSL-VPN employs encryption and other strong security protocols and allows two computers to create a private, secure communications tunnel through the Internet. This ensures that only authorized users can access the MANIT BHOPAL network and that their data cannot be intercepted.. "A Secure Sockets Layer virtual private network (SSL-VPN) is a kind of VPN that runs on Secure Socket Layers technology and is accessible via https over web browsers. It permits users to establish safe and secure remote access sessions from virtually any Internet connected browser." Using SSL-VPN, remote users are connected to the MANIT BHOPAL internal network as if they were directly connected to the campus network. This allows MANIT remote users to access servers and other devices restricted to MANIT network users and isolated from the outside. They can access all servers and applications which they can access from within MANIT BHOPAL campus
